HIRE ME

I have 20+ years of journalism and editorial experience, and I’m ready to help you. I offer a wide range of services tailored to meet the needs of individuals, corporations, nonprofits, international agencies, and creative startups. Need a ghostwriter for the book you’ve always wanted to publish? A consultant about starting a business in Southeast Asia? A copy editor for your dissertation? How about a speaker for your conference on human rights? Get in touch!

Here’s what I can do:

Writing & Editing

I graduated with honors in journalism back in the age of ink, paper, and pica poles. Since then, I’ve worked on staff as a newspaper editor and reporter, and I’ve written everything from news briefs to blog posts to books. Technology has changed, but the beauty of language has not. I’ve coached university students and professional writers as they tackle the page, word by word. Here’s where we can work together:

  • Basic & advanced reporting
  • Storytelling & story structure
  • Copy editing (I’m fluent in AP, Chicago, Economist, and AMA styles. I know which ones use the Oxford comma and which ones don’t.)
  • Structural editing
  • Proofreading
  • Ghostwriting
  • Pitching & proposal writing
  • Individual coaching
  • Memoir development

Video & Photography

I work with my husband and partner, Jerry Redfern, an award-winning visual journalist who has 20+ years of experience with video and still photos for newspapers, magazines, news wires, and corporations.  For more information, click on the Redcoates Studios link above. Together we can put your story on the big screen (or the web). We offer:

  • Documentary stories
  • Short features
  • Portraiture
  • Content editing & story structure
  • Video & image editing
  • Multimedia storytelling

Teaching

My classrooms have ranged from steamy kitchens to Zoom rooms. I offer seminars, workshops, and university courses for journalists, writers, and editors around the world. I’ve led visiting journalists to United Nations meetings and international summits. I’ve designed journalism courses that take reporters into the field for hands-on experiences. And if you’re looking for a cooking class, I also make a mean batch of curry—and I can teach you how. Here’s what I offer:

  • Basic & advanced journalism courses—reporting, editing, ethics
  • The business of freelancing
  • Grant & proposal writing
  • Storytelling—for NGOs, corporations & individuals
  • Southeast Asian cooking (I studied Asian cuisines intensively while working as Gourmet’s Asia correspondent for several years.)

Consulting

Thinking of doing business in Asia? Wondering how to make the most of your experience abroad? Jerry and I offer personalized cultural consulting services for individuals, businesses, and organizations.

Much of our work centers in Southeast Asia. We first moved to Cambodia in 1998, just as the last Khmer Rouge soldiers defected to the government and decades of civil war came to an end. We have since watched that country—and the region as a whole—change with rising economies, shifting politics, new technologies, and the global concerns of the 21st century. Here’s what we can do:

  • Culture, politics, and policy in developing nations (especially Southeast Asia)
  • Journalism and publishing (how to tell your story and how to reach journalists)
  • Storytelling

Every project is different. I will work with you personally to meet your deadlines and goals at affordable rates. Got an idea? Get in touch!
